Hatching Easter Joy: The Easy DIY Easter Basket

Hatching Easter Joy: The Easy DIY Easter Basket

Spring is in the air! To celebrate the season, we are making an Easy DIY Easter Basket. This version is a classroom favorite because it uses a stapler for quick assembly, making it sturdy enough to survive even the most enthusiastic egg hunts!

This craft is a wonderful way for preschoolers to work on following a specific sequence of steps and coordinate their movements to build a real, functional basket.

Why This Craft is Great for Development:

  • Bilateral Coordination: Holding the paper strip in place against the box while an adult helps staple is a great way to practice working together.

  • Spatial Awareness: Learning how to wrap a flat piece of paper around a 3D box helps develop early math and engineering minds!

  • Sequence & Focus: Following the steps from wrapping the base to adding the arch helps children build their attention span.

Materials Needed:

Gather these simple supplies for your Easter celebration:

  • The Base: A small cardboard box (like a recycled snack box).

  • The Paper: Strips of colorful construction paper (the same color for the sides and the arch).

  • The Filling: Easter grass or shredded paper.

  • Tools: A stapler (to be used by an adult or with adult supervision).

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Wrap the Basket Base:

  • Take your wide strips of colored paper and wrap them around the sides of your box.

  • Use a stapler to secure the paper to the corners and edges of the box. This gives it an instant, solid color!

2. Attach the Arch Handle:

  • Take a long, sturdy strip of the same colored paper to create your handle.

  • Place one end against the inside of the box and staple it securely. Arch the paper over to the other side and staple again. Now your basket has a handle that won’t budge!

3. Fill with Easter Grass:

  • Once the structure is complete, fill the inside with soft Easter grass. This makes a cozy “nest” for all the treats and eggs your little learner will find!

4. Ready for the Hunt:

  • Your coordinated, stapled basket is now ready for action! It’s durable, simple to make, and perfect for carrying all those Easter treasures.
